Coming from our respected reporter is this article on the Girls week of lacrosse!

This time our lovely reporter is Roos! Click on and read on!

Monday 18th of February was the start of a week full of lacrosse! We travelled to the Hague to finally play our postponed match. This time we had some extra support to strengthen our team: Ollie (who had never touched a lacrosse stick before), Maaike and Floor who joined a few trainings, and Steph, our new Canadian member who came all the way to Holland to play Canada’s national sport!

During the first half, the Hague was too strong for us. The regular Devils had to get used to the artificial grass (turf) and the others to lacrosse anyway. However, in the second part, Utrecht came back! Despite some nasty injuries (remember: never fall on fake grass), the Devils managed to bring the final score back to 9-11!

On Wednesday it was time for a lacrosse clinic for international students to let everybody know how much fun the fastest game on two feet is. We even convinced some of them! With Jules from Australia and Josie from New Zealand, our team is getting very international.

They joined us just in time to go on a Domstad Devils trip to Groningen, where we had to play on Sunday. Quirine, who played for Groningen last year, thought it was a good idea to show this lovely city to her new team.

Saturday evening we had dinner in Groningen, and afterwards we went to the theatre for a play by students. Unfortunately, the play was in Dutch, so our new Devils had a tiny language course during their weekend. Despite this little language problem, the play was fun and we had a good time. Gezellig!

Finally: party time!!! We have to admit: Groningen is a great place to party. 1001 pubs in a single building is quite amazing, and a rotating bar… Wow! After we had a few drinks, some dancing, a tour through all the bars in that one bar and feeling quite lost after a while, we went to a less crowded place. Over here, we had enough room to dance so we stayed here most of the evening. We didn’t stay too long however, as we wanted to catch some sleep before the match!

Sunday, the big day!  We were all really exited, although we weren’t too fit. After our warming up and meeting the Emmen-girls who joined our team for this match it was time to start. The first few minutes, the Devils’ defence was stunned by the fast attacks, so Groningen scored a couple of times. Luckily we woke up in time, and could keep up with the Gladiators. By the second half we were playing very well. Utrecht managed to score three times in a row, and Groningen became quite scared and asked directly for a time out. Unfortunately they did come back and we lost with 6-8. However, it was a very nice and active game and we came out moral winners.

After a fun weekend we went home, tired but satisfied. The Domstad Devils are definitely looking forward to the next match!
