Lions vs. Devils men

Sunday the 9th of October was the second gameday of the year for the Devils. The opponent this time would be the Amsterdam Lions, the reigning champions of the past three years. The last time this match up was played, was in the semi-final of the play-offs last year. That time the Devils won the first two quarters, but were over classed in the third and fourth. Of course the Devils were looking for revenge!
The entire team was nice on time, in order to get a good warm up before the start of the game at noon. This was especially necessary because the weather was not cooperating and after a long time of gray clouds and cold winds, the rain started to come down on the field.
At noon, the first ten Devils lined up to face the opposing Lions. After the first whistle, it immediately became clear that the Lions wanted to get some quick goals in. Although some goals were allowed by the Devils’ goalie, their defense was doing a great job in shutting down the Amsterdam offense. The score after the first quarter was three to one.
After some good words from Vincent, Peter and Thijs in the break, the Devils showed some great effort and focus, bringing the score back to a tied three all, with a goal from Jorik and Erik. The focus in defense also went up, denying the Amsterdam offense any access to the goal.
For the remainder of the game the teams were equal, getting some good opportunities to score, but also building on a great defense. Sadly, the Devils’ offense had to miss one of their key players for the remainder of the third and fourth quarter, as a late hit to the back took down Peter. With Frank filling up the gap in the offensive part of the Devils, the third quarter ended in a four to four tie.
At the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Devils smelled victory and gave it their all. But unfortunately, they came down six to five late in the fourth quarter because of a goal by the Lion’s number fifty. Even later in the fourth however, Frank came up with a great individual effort by fighting off three Lions and beating their goalie, bringing the game to a tied six all and forcing the game into overtime.
In the obligatory two times four minutes long overtime, the Devils thought to capture the victory, but a goal scored by Joost was cancelled by a crease violation. This forced the game into a golden goal third overtime. Not even thirty seconds into this overtime, Amsterdam’s Jared Fotis managed to sneak past the defense of the Devils and make a quick stick goal, claiming the victory for Amsterdam.
Although the Devils lost this game, they showed they are a force to be reckoned with this year. Never was a game against the Amsterdam Lions so close and exciting! It left the Devils wanting more, so let this be a warning to the Rotterdam Jaguars who will be coming to Utrecht!
Devils men vs. Jaguars
On Sunday the 16th of October it was time for the rematch of last year’s play-offs fight for the third place. The Domstad Devils would take on the Rotterdam Jaguars at their home turf!
At a quarter pas eleven, twenty-one Devils started a good warm up in the bright, sunny morning. With a clear sky and bright sun overhead, the morning bode well for the rest of the day.
By the time the first whistle was blown, a fair sized crowd had shown up to watch the Devils try to crush the Jaguars.
From the beginning on, it was looking good for the Devils. Where the Devils had eleven substitutes, the Jaguars only had two. This gave them a good chance of outrunning the Rotterdam team.
Although this was the case, the Devils did not come out swinging but lacked some focus.
For the first two quarters, the game was fairly even divided between the two teams. The devils had more players and a better defense, but Rotterdam seemed to be outworking them on the groundballs and had some good individual efforts to score them some goals. After two quarters, the score favored the Devils slightly, with just a one-goal difference.
During the third and fourth quarter, the Devils rallied to pick up their focus and gained the advantage in the game. Picking up their game and scoring some good goals, the Devils took home the victory: twelve to 6.
With the goals being divided amongst a lot of players, an amazing defense and a show of high focus in the last two quarters, the Domstad Devils confirmed their form and once again showed to be a force to be reckoned with!
Next week there will be no games because of the third Dutch National Team try-outs, but on the thirtieth the Devils will be taking on the Groningen Gladiators in Rotterdam.

Kannibalz vs. Devils men

It was finally there, the first gameday of the season! With a few new and old guys who joined the Devils for this season at our side, 20 Devilish players were ready to battle with the Nijmegen Kannibalz.
After a good hour of warming up in the hot sun, the devils were all fired up to start their first game of the season. Under the watchful eyes of the coaches Thomas and Vincent the first ten players lined up and went to their places on the pitch. Jesse lost the first face-off, but Arthur ran in to immediately knock down the opposing face-off man. With this, the tone was set for the rest of the game.
In the first two quarters of the game, the Devils dominated the Kannibalz entirely. The Kannibalz only came over half field to be pounded back to their own half again. With this kind of focus the Devils showed, they were up seven to zero after the first two quarters.
In the third and fourth quarters of the game the Devils continued the dominating play style, and expanded their lead to eleven to zero before the Kannibalz could score their first goal of the game. The only way they could, was because of some confusion on the sideline of the Devils.
The Devils finished up the game, coming and winning with thirteen to one.
They showed great effort and focus, and let everybody know they are more than ready to let everyone bite their dust! Next week: Amsterdam.
